New Evinrude E-TEC 2009 centennial model year engines

May 28, 2008 · Category Outboard News ·

Sturtevant, WI, May 27, 2008 – BRP commemorates 100-years of Evinrude® outboard engine innovation with the introduction of new Evinrude E-TEC® 2009 centennial model year engines. Now 25- and 30-horsepower Evinrude E-TEC outboard engines, featuring an all new anniversary year graphic design, will be available at Evinrude dealerships worldwide for the 2009 model year.

“We’re extremely pleased to make this product introduction during our celebration of 100 years of life on the water with Evinrude,” says Roch Lambert, vice president and general manager, Outboard Marine Engines, BRP. “Evinrude outboard power began with engineering ingenuity and BRP is continuing it today with E-TEC technology in new 25- and 30-horsepower engines,” he continues. “We have broadened our engine family to make the Evinrude E-TEC product advantages available to more boating applications and allow a greater opportunity for boaters everywhere to spend more time on the water.”

The new two-cylinder engines offer the highest fuel efficiency, lightest weight, and most power in their competitive engine class. The engine technology and superior results are proven with five years of E-TEC technology success and a rigorous testing program. With a 35.3 cubic inch (576 cc) displacement and 142-pound weight, boaters will enjoy the advantages of quick acceleration, high power and low fuel consumption these new lower horsepower engines provide to them.  Ergonomically designed for easy operation, 25- and 30-horsepower engines feature a more compact and integrated pull handle that locks in place; standard electronic adjustable idle speed control; and a trim and tilt switch that is located at the end of the twist grip that can be operated without moving your hand. The sleek, compact design includes a folding tiller handle for convenient carrying and storage. The tiller handle incorporates a unique “touch troll” button, which acts like a cruise control to allow boaters easy adjustment and maintain optimal trolling speed.  Boaters can rely on the high 15 amps of net output for additional power to operate onboard electronics.  Each model, regardless of configuration, includes a rewind rope starter so a dead battery will never keep you from enjoying your day on the water.

“These new outboard engines fill a vital product segment in key markets worldwide,” added Chris Dawson, vice president and general manager, BRP International.  “With the launch of the new 25- and 30-hp models, as well as the 250HO and 300-hp models released earlier this year, we are delivering on our promise to expand the line above and below the current offering.  All these new models are expected to bring great enthusiasm from our worldwide dealer network,” stated Dawson.

The new engines feature the same E-TEC technology that provides superior benefits found throughout the line.
• No maintenance including three years or 300 hours of no dealer-scheduled maintenance; a three-year declining warranty; no oil filters and no oil changes; no belts or chains to adjust or replace; and no valve throttle linkage adjustments required. These benefits give E-TEC owners significant savings in maintenance costs.  E-TEC engines are so well-engineered and precision-built that no break-in period is required.
• Clean and quiet performance minimizes impact on our environment with extremely low carbon monoxide emission at idle; CARB 3-star rated, EPA and EU compliant; low particulate matter emissions; no crankcase oil to dispose of; and exceptionally quiet operation.
• Durable and reliable through reliable design and parts including a new multi-point oiling system; NASA alloy developed pistons; 100-percent power and emissions testing; oversized, robust gearcase; and same proven E-TEC family design.
• Best-in-class power and performance with more displacement; up to 40-percent more torque; superior hole shot; faster top speed; and excellent fuel economy – up to 15% better than competitive 4-stroke engines in this horsepower class.

Starlo Upgrades with Yamaha

May 12, 2008 · Category Outboard News ·

High profile fishing writer and TV presenter, Steve “Starlo” Starling, has recently upgraded his personal fishing boat to a fully-imported 17 foot flats skiff powered by Yamaha.

Starlo insisted on Yamaha and planted a new F115 four-stroke outboard on the back of his boat, rather than switch engine brands with his new skiff.

Steve Starling has long been a part of the Australian fishing and boating scene. From pioneering soft plastic lures and the bream fishing tournament scene to his role as TV presenter and respected journalist, Starlo is never far away from the fishing front line.

With such high expectations of his fishing and boating equipment, Starlo has again put his confidence in Yamaha to power his latest boat. “I ran a Yamaha F115 four-stroke outboard on my previous rig, and it never missed a beat,” Starlo explained.

“This Yamaha model provides exactly the mix of performance, economy, smooth running and quiet operation that I demand — all backed by Yamaha’s legendary reliability. My F115 starts first turn of the key every single time; regardless of weather conditions or how long it has been sitting idle. Then it gets me where I’m going quickly, quietly and without any fuss… that’s incredibly reassuring!”.

The standard gauges that Yamaha include with every 4-Stroke engine deliver class leading features and help make boating a breeze. Furthermore, the fuel management meter supplied with the F115 has a ‘distance to empty’ function which is invaluable when out on the water and a long way from home.

Starlo’s new boat is a low profile 17 foot centre console and is geared for barra and bream style fishing where manoeuvrability and casting space on deck is paramount.

Extra wide coamings, endless storage, ultra shallow draft and simplicity of layout make Starlo’s boat a formidable partner in lakes, estuaries and other flat water environments. The stepped hull is design matched to the refined power of the Yamaha F115 to ensure maximum speed and optimum handling performance.

The US fly-fishing inspired rear casting/poling platform is a unique feature of this boat. Neatly positioned over the outboard, the tower provides the ideal vantage point for spotting fish.  It allows the angler to cast a line unimpeded by other members on board the boat.

The Yamaha powered fishing machine has a big job ahead in keeping up with Starlo’s fishing and television commitments across Australia. One thing is guaranteed, Starlo will again be enjoying the benefits of owning Australia’s best selling outboard brand.

Yamaha outboards are available through an Australia-wide network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers.  All Yamaha 4-stroke outboards are supported with a full 4-year manufacturer’s warranty and all 2-stroke outboards are backed by a 3 year warranty – standard conditions apply.

Kevlacat and Suzuki to the rescue

May 5, 2008 · Category Outboard News ·

Kawana-based Catamaran manufacturer Kevlacat joined forces with Suzuki marine recently to equip Volunteer Marine Rescue of Queensland with a new fast response offshore vessel, to be based on North Stradbroke Island.
Powered by twin Suzuki DF140 in-line four stroke outboards, the 7.3m (24ft) vessel was constructed using Kevlar/GRP composite and is certified to QLD 2C survey.
The Kevlacat vessel, named the Blue Diamond, will replace VMRQ’s fifteen year old Sharkcat and will be commissioned in May.
Haines Suzuki Marine general manager, Greg Haines said the Suzuki DF 140 was the power of choice for VMRQ due to the power delivery and the efficiency of the engine.
“These engines incorporate forged one-piece crankshaft, stainless steel water pump, race-proven 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust system and computer-controlled fuel injection.
“With electric start, Suzuki DF140 outboards deliver optimum performance at almost any throttle setting, temperature or altitude,” Greg Haines said.
Kevlacat Power Boats Australia Director Andrew Earle said the company was approached by VMRQ to sea trial a 2400 for them in September last year.
“After VMRAQ went through the assessment process with their selected choice of manufacturers our superior product was chosen.
“The vessel has been specified for full rescue and towing configuration to the specific requirements for VMR North Stradbroke Island and took ten weeks to manufacture,” Andrew said.
Achieving cruise speeds of 25 knots and a WOT speed of 42 knots, the new Kevlacat VMRQ vessel will service Moreton Bay and offshore waters to 50nm from North Stradbroke Island.
VMRQ has 25 affiliated Squadrons located throughout Queensland and these Squadrons provide marine search and rescue services to the boating public on a volunteer basis.
